One of my students works at a grocery and he’s scared. So I looked over the advisory panel on reopening the state appointed by Governor Charlie Baker to see who is looking out for my student’s health and well-being. The answer is: no one. Not a single solitary member is looking out for workers.
No nurses, no teachers, no construction workers, no hotel and restaurant workers, no custodians, no hospital orderlies, no bus drivers, no nothing. Plenty of CEOs, who I guess are supposed to take into account their workers. Right. That always works out.
Yes, Governor, fair representation requires that you bring union representatives to the table. They’ll do a much better job of representing their members and workers who are not unionized (looking at you Whole Foods).
CEOs run the show. Workers sit in a dark corner to await the news of their fate.
So please, let’s not call hospital workers, delivery drivers, and grocery store workers heroes. It’s demeaning. Heroes get power. The advisory panel gives them none.
Who is looking out for my student, Governor?
{Full disclosure: as an educator in the UMass system, I am a union member}.
Well said!
Governor Baker, are you listening?
Excellent. Does the governor just invite his friends? A shadow of Trump who only wants people who agree with him?
